All-wheel drive Volvo with electric drive axle

All-wheel drive Volvo with electric drive axle

The disadvantages of a mechanical all-wheel drive powertrain is considered to be the complexity of the torque distribution and increased mass of the car.

The problem is solved with a system T8 Twin Engine, which will be installed on the Volvo SUV XC90. This vehicle has two engines — the internal combustion engine and the electric motor. And the issue with four-wheel drive have been solved without the propeller shaft.

Motor power of 60 kW and sends torque 2400 nm at electrified rear axle.

At the same time the electric motor generates only 240 Nm, but further reduction gearing is 1:10. But already there and installed a new electronic clutch eТwinster with two clutches for the distribution of traction between the wheels (one clutch for each axle shaft), which is not only capable of preventing the slipping of one of the wheels, but also to help when entering turns at high speeds.
